How to Wear a Midi Dress in Winter
Tights, boots and the right layers: how to keep your midi dresses in rotation all winter long.

Your midi dresses don't need to be packed away when the weather turns. With the right layers, they're some of the most comfortable and flattering pieces to wear all winter. Here's how to keep them in rotation.
Start with a winter-weight dress
Some dresses are made for colder months: ribbed knits, turtlenecks, long sleeves and checked shirt dresses. They'll keep you warm on their own and need very little styling.
Try: Hannah, a ribbed wrap-front dress, Maren, a belted checked shirtdress, or Marla, a long-sleeve fringe midi dress.
Add tights and boots
Opaque tights and boots make any midi dress winter-ready. With ankle boots, tights in the same colour as your boots create a long, unbroken line. With tall boots, let the hem of the dress meet or just cover the top of the boot.
Try: Faith, block-heel ankle boots, or Aurora, classic tall riding boots.
Layer on top
A layer over your dress adds warmth and changes the whole feel of the outfit:
- A cardigan, worn open or belted, keeps it soft and relaxed.
- A blazer makes it office-ready.
- A sweater vest over a shirt dress is a smart, slightly preppy look.
Try: Grace, a ribbed button-tab cardigan, Audrey, a tailored double-breasted blazer, or Vivian, a cable-knit vest.
Layer underneath
Lighter summer dresses can still work: just add a fine long-sleeve top or turtleneck underneath. It's a simple trick that gives a floaty dress a whole new season.
Try: a long-sleeve top from Tops & Blouses.
Finish with the right coat
A longline coat that covers most of the dress looks neat and keeps the outfit's line clean. A shorter jacket works best with a belted dress, so the shape still shows.
